Van Karen Burns Coffey, 76, of Morganton, NC, passed away Sunday, October 2, 2022.

Born in Burke County, NC on November 24, 1945, she was the daughter of the late Joseph Estes Burns and Dorothy Dellinger Burns.  Van was a member of Bethel Baptist Church.  She was a graduate of Drexel High School and enjoyed working in the yard, crafting, creating porcelain dolls, painting, and decorating for the holidays.  Van dearly loved her animals.

Mrs. Coffey is survived by her husband of 58 years, James Edward Coffey; sons, Scott Michael Coffey (Rebecca) and Skip Aaron Coffey (Christine); granddaughter, Skyler Adkins; brother, Phillip Burns; and sister, Mary Jo Fyfe.

In addition to her parents, Van was preceded in death by her beloved sister, Melissa Gilley.

The family will receive friends from 12 to 1 p.m., Wednesday, October 5, 2022 at Bethel Baptist Church.  The funeral will be held at 1 p.m. in the church with Revs. J. R. Robbins and Kevin Sizemore officiating.  Entombment will follow in Burke Memorial Park Mausoleum.

Sossoman Funeral Home and Crematory Center is assisting the family with the arrangements.
