Van Freeman Carswell, 75 of Morganton, NC passed away Friday, September 7, 2018.  Born July 21, 1943 in Burke County, NC, he was a son of the late Roysville Luther Carswell and Margaret Ruth Curtis Carswell. 

Van loved bluegrass music and Tennessee walking horses.  He was a member of Catawba Valley Masonic Lodge # 217 in Morganton.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Lela C. Smith.

Mr. Carswell is survived by his wife, Ruth Carolyn Cook Carswell of the home; son, Van Keith Carswell of Vale; brother, Walter Luther Carswell and wife, Estelle of Jonas Ridge; sister, Betty C. Hudson of Nebo; and a number of nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends 12 – 1p.m., Monday, September 10, 2018 at Sossoman Funeral Home.  The funeral will be held at 1 p.m., Monday in the Colonial Chapel of Sossoman Funeral Home with Rev. Steve Curtis officiating.  Masonic rites will be provided by Catawba Valley Masonic Lodge #217.  Burial will follow at Burke Memorial Park.

Memorial contributions may be made to Masonic Home for Children, 600 College Street, Oxford, NC, 27565.

Sossoman Funeral Home and Crematory Center is assisting the family with the arrangements.
