Tony Ray Chapman, 66, of Lincolnton, NC died Thursday, July 3, 2014. Born October 30, 1947 in Burke County, NC, he was a son of the late Leonard Chapman and Joyce Carswell Chapman. Tony enjoyed listening to Gospel music, and loved his family and friends.
He is survived by his wife, Dorothy Whisnant Chapman of the home; sons, Bennett Chapman and wife, Tracy, and Dennis Chapman, all of Morganton; daughters, Sherry Downs and husband, Randy of Casar, NC, and Sarah Payne and husband, Michael of Valdese, NC; a brother, Verlin Chapman and wife, Mary of Morganton; a sister, Jeanette Fisher and husband, Vernon of Morganton; step-children, Judy Martinez and husband, Esteban and Carroll Downs and wife, Melanie, all of Lincolnton, Peggy Downs of Cleveland County, Donna Norman and husband, Lynn of Cherryville, NC, and James Downs and wife, Rosa of Old Fort, NC; 10 grandchildren, 2 great-grandchildren, 16 step-grandchildren, and 17 step great-grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, Tony was preceded in death by a daughter, Tonia Chapman Hall.
Funeral services will be held at 3:00 p.m., Sunday, July 6, 2014 in the Colonial Chapel of Sossoman Funeral Home and Crematory Center with Rev. Dan Hensley and Rev. Richard Ellington officiating. Burial will follow in Bethlehem Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service.
