Tony Long, 63, of Glen Alpine, NC passed away Monday, September 26, 2016 at his residence.  Born in Burke County, NC on December 16, 1952, he was the son of the late Dale Lonnie Long and Getty B. Dale Long.  Tony was a member of the Deaf Mission at First Baptist Church where he had served as a deacon and Sunday school teacher.  He retired from J. Iverson Riddle Developmental Center and was working at the North Carolina School for the Deaf as a driver and dorm supervisor.

Tony is survived by his wife of 40 years, Linda Plemmons Long of the home; children, Rachel Long Freeman and her husband, Jason, and Jason Dale Long and his wife, Kathy, all of Morganton; grandchildren, Austin Freeman and Nolan Long; brothers, Gary Long and his wife, Lisa, of Morganton and Roger Long and his wife, Damaris, of Hickory, NC; a sister, Libby Silcox of Hickory; and nephews, Chris Barker and Dustin Long.

In addition to his parents, Tony was preceded in death by two brothers, Billy and John Long.

The family will receive friends from 2 – 3:30 pm, Sunday, October 2, 2016 at Sossoman Funeral Home and Crematory Center.  The funeral will be held at 3:30 pm in the Colonial Chapel of the funeral home with the Rev. Tom Lineberger officiating.  Burial will follow in Burke Memorial Park.
