Thomas Edwin “Ed” Harbison, 87, of the Oak Hill Community went to his Heavenly Home on Friday, January 9, 2015 at his residence with his wife by his side.  Born in Burke County, NC on August 8, 1927, he was the son of the late Thomas Carr Harbison and Maggie Parks Harbison.  Ed was a lifetime member of Oak Hill United Methodist Church where he served on several committees and was a past Chairman of the Trustees.  Mr. Harbison was a U.S. Army veteran of WWII.  He then studied to be an electrician and worked at several area businesses, including: Starrett Electric, Stephens Electric, Great Lakes Carbon, and Wamsutta Mills.  He then retired from the High Rise Prison.  Ed’s hobbies included gardening and photography.  He was a member of the Oak Hill Ruritan and was a Boy Scout leader.  He loved spending time with his friends.

Mr. Harbison is survived by his wife of 67 years, Millie Fox Harbison of the home; a daughter, Janet D. Harbison of the home; nine nieces and nephews; brothers-in-law, Charles Fox, Jr. and his wife, Dean, and John Hairfield; and a sister-in-law, Sadie Thompson and her husband, Bill.

In addition to his parents, Ed was preceded in death by his sister, Mabel Harbison.

A private family graveside service will be held at Oak Hill United Methodist Church Cemetery.  A memorial service will be held at a later date.

Sossoman Funeral Home and Crematory Center is assisting the family with the arrangements.
