Thomas Edward Walters, Tom, born October 23, 1958 died on October 8, 2025 after multiple health issues.
Tom was born in New York City, lived his childhood in Houston, Texas and after graduation from high school, spent 8 years in the US Navy. He received his degree in education from Texas Tech University and began a career as a special education teacher in the public school system in Texas. He received his master’s degree from the University of North Carolina. He married Debra Vitale in July 1996. They moved to Valdese, North Carolina and subsequently built a house in Morganton. Tom retired from teaching in the North Carolina prison system in Morganton.
Thomas was preceded in death by his wife Debra.
He is survived by a step-son, Philip Healey; sisters, Linda Jane Waters and Joyce Anne Simmons; brother, James Peter Walters; and several nieces and nephews.
No services are planned at this time.
Sossoman Funeral Home and Crematory Center is assisting the family with the arrangements.

Tom was a great friend of ours my late Husband Tommy Hensley worked for Tom at the farm for many years . He will be missed for sure !!!!! You and Tommy and Debra are up in Heaven now no pain no health issues and running free RIP
Im not sure who I'm sending this to but I had the honor of working with Mr.Walters on his home loan for the last few years. He was so amazing and truly truly loved his belated wife. I pray his family gave him a beautiful service to match his beautiful heart. May he rest in peace.
Tom was a good friend and teaching companion.
