Thera Baker Sigmon, 87, of Valdese died Monday, November 13, 2017 at Hickory Falls Health and Rehabilitation Center in Granite Falls. She was born September 18, 1930 in Burke County to the late Preston G. Baker and Wilma Inez Houser Baker. Thera was a homemaker for over 60 years. She loved her church, her family and especially her grandchildren. She was an active member of The Drexel First Church of God. She served in the nursery for over 50 years with her sister, Nana Williams. Thera was also involved with the Drexel Church Christmas Bazaars for 50 years with candy making and chicken and dumpling suppers; again, alongside her sister, Nana.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Walter Lewis Sigmon and a sister, Moleta Baker Harris.
She is survived by her children, Walter D. Sigmon and wife, Vicki, Glenn R. Sigmon and wife, Rita, Darren R. Sigmon and wife, Renee; grandchildren, Jeffrey S. Sigmon and wife, Leslie, Jennifer Hennessee, Jamie Ward and husband, Lin, Lindsey Ewing and husband, Cameron, Cody Sigmon and Melissa Sigmon; sister, Nana Williams; brothers, Preston Baker, Jr. and wife, Betty of SC and David Baker of Atlanta; great-grandchildren, Kathryn Hennessee, Kayleigh Sigmon, Emma Hennesse and Ayden Ward; and numerous nieces and nephews and hundreds of “grandchildren” she called hers.
The family will receive friends from 12 noon until 1:00 p.m., Thursday, November 16, 2017 at Drexel First Church of God. The service will follow at 1:00 p.m. at the church with Pastor Don Hackney officiating and Pastor Jake Eldridge assisting. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to Drexel First Church of God, P.O. Box 218, Drexel, NC 28619.
Sossoman Funeral Home and Crematory Center is assisting the family with the arrangements.
