Thelma Sparks Branch Looper, 92, of Morganton, NC winged her way into Heaven on Tuesday, August 30, 2016. She was born in Catawba County, NC on April 14, 1924 and was the daughter of the late Jordan Sparks and Cora Teague Sparks. Thelma was a loving mother and grandmother. She loved baking and decorating cakes as well as cooking for her family. Thelma was a member of Pleasant View Baptist Church where she was a devoted Sunday school teacher.
In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her first husband, Vernon Ray Branch, second husband, Glen Looper; sisters, Alice Starnes and Daisy Canipe; and brother, Clarence Sparks.
Thelma is survived by her children, Vernon Ray Branch, Jr. and wife, Greta of Raleigh, NC, Carolyn Powell and husband, Larry, and Larry Branch and wife, Lisa; grandchildren, Leslie Dover and husband, Brooks, Shane Styles, Ken Helms, Michael Branch and wife, Misty, Kim Byrd and husband, Kenny, and Curtis Powell and wife, Rena; great-grandchildren, Brooks Dover, Jr., Kendall Branch, and Elizabeth Walker; a great-great-granddaughter, Ashley Powell; and a number of nieces, nephews and extended family.
The family will receive friends from 2:00 p.m. until 3:00 p.m., Thursday, September 1, 2016 at Sossoman Funeral Home and Crematory Center. The funeral service will follow at 3:00 p.m. in the Colonial Chapel of Sossoman Funeral Home with Reggie Rushing officiating. Burial will follow at Forest Hill Cemetery.
