Thelma C. Epley, 77, of Glen Alpine went to be with her Lord and Savior on Friday, August 15, 2014. Born in Burke County, NC on August 23, 1936, she was the daughter of the late Thomas L. Chapman and Estelle Morgan Chapman. She was retired from Drexel Heritage Furniture with 34 years of service. Thelma was a devoted Christian lady and always took care of her family. She was a member at Lakeview Baptist Church her whole life.
In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, Bennett Lee "Cisco" Epley; brothers, Thomas L. Chapman, Charles W. Chapman, William M. Chapman and Clarence E. Chapman; step sister Louise Carter; and her mother and father in law, John and Annie Ree Epley.
Thelma is survived by a son, Randall Bennett Epley of Glen Alpine; daughter, Lisa Epley Arrowood and Johnny of Glen Alpine; grandchildren, John R. Epley and partner Billy Shugart of Charlotte, Charity C. Epley and partner, Jeremy Eldreth of VA, Lauren E. Denton and husband, Champ of Morganton, Jakob L. Arrowood and Zakery K. Arrowood; sister Betty and husband Ronald Barrett of Morganton; step brother Don Hull; step sister Eloise "Polly" Polk; many special friends; and a number of nieces, nephews, and cousins.
The funeral will be held at 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, August 20, 2014 at Lakeview Baptist Church with Pastor Paul P. Dula. The burial will be at Glen Alpine Cemetery at a later date. The family will receive friends Tuesday evening from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at Sossoman Funeral Home and Crematory Center. Memorial contributions may be made to Lakeview Baptist Church, 4944 Lakeview Acres Rd., Valdese, NC 29690 or to a charity of one’s choice.
