Taft Harmon Clark, Jr., 83, of Morganton, NC, passed away Tuesday, July 22, 2025.

Born in Burke County, NC, he was the son of the late William Taft Clark and Fannie Brittain Bollinger Clark.

Taft was an active member of Pleasant View Baptist Church. Mr. Clark was a former employee of Romarco, Lackey Construction, and he retired from the NC Dept. of Corrections with 21 years of service. Throughout his 83 years he loved to travel, going to nascar races, football games, and was a master gardener. However, his passions were hunting and fishing with his buddies, but always had time to take his kids and later grandkids, too. He deeply loved his family and friends and was always ready to lend a helping hand, no matter the task, to anyone who needed it.

Those left to cherish his memory include his wife, Pat A. Clark; daughter, Sonya Rockett; son, Martin Clark (Laura); grandchildren, Johnna Rockett (Dave Southard), Taylor Rockett Burns (Brent), McKinley Clark, and Emery Clark; great-granddaughters, Lily and Owen; sister, Reba Blankenship; and a multitude of nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, Taft was preceded in death by his brothers, Festes Bollinger, Sanford, Raymond, Ted, and Frank Clark; sisters, Jessie Fay Arney, Wilma Clark, and Linda Smith; and several nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends from 2 to 3 p.m., Sunday, July 27, 2025 at Pleasant View Baptist Church followed by the funeral at 3 p.m. with Rev. Dr. Rex Shaver and Rev. Kevin Sizemore officiating. Burial will be at Hartland Baptist Church Cemetery. At other times the family will be at the home.

Memorial contributions may be made to Pleasant View Baptist Church, 1834 US 70 East, Morganton, NC 28655.

The family would like to express their appreciation to his caregivers, Debbie Branch and Catherine “Kitty” Farrington.

Sossoman Funeral Home and Crematory Center is assisting the family with the arrangements.

To the one of the best people I have known in my lift. We were friends since 1963 although we lost touch for a long time he was never not in my heart. May he rest in peace and in Gods healing light. Kathy
