Sue “Betty” Ingle Carswell Baker, 90, of Statesville, NC, formerly a lifelong resident of Morganton, NC, passed away Friday, September 29, 2023 at Jurney’s of Statesville after a brief illness.

Born in Lincoln County, NC on September 27, 1933, she was the daughter of the late Isaac Robert Ingle, Sr. and Zora Texanna Carswell.

Betty was a lifelong member of Pleasant Hill Baptist Church in Morganton, where she was a Sunday school teacher for many years.

Betty is survived by her daughter, Barbara Carswell Miller (Rick) of Statesville, NC; sons, James Oliver Carswell (Audrey) of Morganton and Danny Lee Carswell (Janice) of Burnsville, NC; five grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren; and two great great-grandchildren.

In addition to her parents, Betty was preceded in death by her husband, Jesse James Carswell; infant son, Robert Michael Carswell; and her siblings.

The family will receive friends from 11 a.m. to 12 p.m., Tuesday, October 3, 2023 at Peasant Hill Baptist Church. The funeral will be held at noon in the church with Rev. Doug Price officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, the family request donations to the Gideon International Organization in Betty’s honor.

Sossoman Funeral Home and Crematory Center is assisting the family with the arrangements.
