Steve Worthman, 78, of Morganton, NC, passed away on Tuesday, July 2, 2013 peacefully in his home. He loved his family deeply, and will be dearly missed and forever loved by all.Steve was born in New York City on January 16, 1935, and was the son of Sydney and Ida Worthman. He earned a Bachelor Degree of Industrial Design Degree from the Pratt Institute in New York, 1953. After graduating college, he served proudly in the U.S. Army as the Commander of A Co., 16th Signal Battalion (Corps), Fort Huachuca, Arizona.A multi-faceted designer, engineer, and artist for more than 50 years, including a freelance furniture designer for major manufactures, he formed ‘Steve Worthman Design’ in 1990. He was the recipient of numerous design awards for major collections, including "Genesis" and "Gramercy" for the Hickory White furniture company.Steve was an avid swimmer, and loved deep-sea fishing and scuba diving, as well as traveling the world, and exploring the mountains of North Carolina.He is survived by his wife of 37 years, the love of his life, Sandra Worthman, and his daughters Robin Blanchard and Lisa Hill, son Glen Worthman, step-daughter Laura Bourgerie, and step-son Richard Bourgerie. Mr. Worthman was also a wonderful grandfather to six grandchildren: Jay, Brittany, Austin, Dylan, Jessica, Marissa, and one great-granddaughter.

The family will have a memorial service, followed by a gathering of friends and family on Sunday, July 14, 2013, from 5:00 until 7:00 p.m., in the Sossoman Funeral Home.
