Steve Hembree, 70, of Morganton died Sunday, January 20, 2019.  Born on July 12, 1948 in Rutherford County, NC, he was the son of the late Pete Hembree and Ida Louise Ford Hembree.  Steve was a U.S. Army veteran of the Vietnam War, serving 1968-69.  He was the recipient of two Purple Hearts.  Steve was a member of Hopewell Baptist Church and retired from American Roller Bearing.

Mr. Hembree is survived by his wife, Wanda LeFevers Hembree of the home; children, Kara Hembree of Morganton, Leith Hembree (Elise) of Glen Alpine, and Rafe Hembree of Nebo; grandchildren, Austin Kenobi, Riley Hembree, Seth Hembree, Bailey Hembree, Hope Hembree, Hadyn Punch, Kason Punch, and Paisley Hembree; brother, Raymond Hembree; sisters, Diane Burleson, Linda Calloway, and Deborah Tessler; and his beloved dog, Stephanie.

In addition to his parents, Steve was preceded in death by a brother, Larry Hembree.

The family will receive friends from 12 to 1 p.m., Thursday, January 24, 2019 at Hopewell Baptist Church.  The funeral will be held at 1 p.m. in the church with Dr. Danny Emory officiating.  Burial will follow in the church cemetery with military honors provided by the NC National Guard and the Caldwell County Veterans Honors Guard.
