Stacie Jeanne McPhail, 36, died Sunday, June 17, 2012 at Duke University Medical Center, Durham. Stacie was born in Topeka, KS on June 2, 1976 and was the daughter of Dennis Alan McPhail and Jeanne Ann Aadalen McPhail of Hickory.Stacie graduated from Silver Lake High School in 1994. She continued her education at several colleges and universities. Stacie earned an associate’s degree in Fine Arts in 1996 from Butler County Community College, a bachelor’s degree in music education in 1999 from Emporia State University, and a master’s degree in Special Education in 2008 from Appalachian State University. Stacie taught music in North Carolina including Fayetteville Street Christian School in Asheboro and Randelman Middle School. She was a special education teacher with the Burke County Schools at Glen Alpine Elementary, and most recently, from 2006 until the present, she was the Exceptional Children’s Coordinator at New Dimensions Charter School, in Morganton.As a member of Grandview Baptist Church, Stacie served as choir director and was a member of the choir. She was a member of the Southern Gospel Music Association and sang with her parents as "The Macs" from 2003 to 2012. They recorded two CD’s of which she co-wrote two songs.In addition to her parents, Stacie is survived by her paternal step-grandmother, several aunts, uncles, and cousins.She was preceded in death by her maternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Arlie Aadalen, and by her paternal grandparents, Mrs. And Mrs. Alan McPhail.A celebration of the life of Stacie Jeanne McPhail will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, June 21, 2012, at Grandview Baptist Church with Rev. John Whisnant officiating. The family will receive friends one hour before the service. Memorial contributions may be made to New Dimensions School Library Fund, 550 Lenoir Rd., Morganton, NC 28655 or to the Southern Gospel Music Association, PO Box 6729, Sevierville, TN 37864.Sossoman Funeral Home & Crematory Center is assisting the family.
