Shirley Anne Church Coffey, 72, died Wednesday, August 7, 2013. She was born in Burke County on June 12, 1941 and was the daughter of the late John P. and Estelle Faye Berry Church. Shirley was a graduate of Hildebran High School and in 1963 graduated from Grace Hospital School of Nursing. She retired from Western Carolina Center in 1997 with 30 years of service. Shirley and her mother sang for a number of years on WMNC on Sunday mornings. She was a member of Grace Baptist Church. Shirley was cherished and loved by her family and friends and will be greatly missed by everyone.Surviving are her husband, Ned Bennette Coffey of the home; her son, Kenneth B. Coffey and his wife, Kelly of Morganton; granddaughters, Dustie Boyette, Lacie Brittain, and Tiffany Throneburg all of Hickory; great-grandchildren, Saylor Throneburg and Charley Boyette; her brother, J. Steve Church and his wife, Gail of Port Charles, FL; and a number of beloved nephews and nieces. Shirley also leaves her faithful canine companion, Fergie.Funeral services will be held at 3:00 p.m. Sunday, August 11, 2013 at Grace Baptist Church with Rev. Marty Bess officiating. The family will receive friends Saturday evening from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. at Sossoman Funeral Home and Crematory Center where the body will remain until placed in the church 30 minutes before the funeral hour. Memorial contributions may be made to Grace Baptist Church, 1939 Paul Shuping Ave., Morganton, NC 28655.
