Sherry Benfield, 67, of Morganton, passed away Thursday, January 2, 2025 while surrounded by her family.

Born in Cleveland County, NC on August 12, 1957, she was the daughter of Margaret Pauline Newton Poole and the late S.L. Poole. Sherry was a member of Zion Baptist Church. She was a woman of faith who loved the Lord. Sherry also loved animals (especially her chickens), being outdoors, and riding around with her husband enjoying the scenery. Sherry was part of a very close family who dearly loved each other.

Sherry is survived by her mother and husband, Michael G. Benfield; son, Michael Ray Benfield; siblings, Linda McKinney (Randy), Ricky Poole, and Timmy Poole; and her mother-in-law, Hattie Benfield.

In addition to her father, Sherry was preceded in death by a son, Jacob Lee Benfield; brothers, Gary, Jimmy, and Ronnie Poole; sister, Carolyn Poole; and father-in-law, Forest Ray Benfield.

The family will receive friends from 1 to 2 p.m., Tuesday, January 7, 2025 at Zion Baptist Church. The funeral will be held at 2 p.m. in the church with Rev. Keith Rose officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

Sossoman Funeral Home and Crematory Center is assisting the family with the arrangements.

Sherry was my neighbor and a very dear friend. We shared plants and flowers and talked about our many cats. Sherry was one of the purest, honest spirits; no person, animal, or plant did not benefit from her caring. My life will always be better for having known Sherry and she will be in my heart forever.
