Sheldon Marcus Brittain, 31, of Morganton passed away Wednesday September 12, 2018. Born May 18, 1987 in Valdese, NC, Sheldon was the son of Mark Brittain and Gail Rhyne Draper.

In addition to his parents, Sheldon is survived by his stepfather Tim Draper; grandparents, Kermit and Peggy Brittain and Kenneth and Alice Rhyne; brothers, Derek Brittain (Sara Brown) and Layton Brittain; stepsister, Braeden Personius; nieces, Ivy Brittain and Mackenna Brown; nephew, Sam Brittain; godparents, Eddie and Kim Prewitt and Robert and Jennifer “Missy” Breland; as well as a multitude of loving aunts, uncles and cousins. Sheldon is also survived by his very special friend Sarah Powell.

Sheldon, known to his family his entire life as “Boo Bunny”, was one of the most loving and caring people you would ever meet. He never failed to say “I love you” to those that he loved. He cared so much for others and would give you the shirt off of his back if you needed it, although it might have been one of his dad’s because Sheldon had a knack for taking (“borrowing”) his shirts. While sometimes initially shy, once you knew him, he could talk for hours and have your cheeks hurting from laughter. Sheldon had a special bond with kids who were just naturally drawn to his fun and loving ways. He became “like a dad” to many of his friends’ children, loved playing with his little brother, and had many adventures with his beloved Ivy. He would have made an excellent father one day. Sheldon loved the outdoors and especially fishing! Whether it was on the banks of the Catawba river, off the piers of the Outer Banks, or off the coasts of Florida or Virginia Beach, many fishing trips were taken with his dad, brothers, and cousins. The ocean was Sheldon’s happy place.

Sheldon was so incredibly smart and knew a little something about almost everything. He especially loved mechanics, something that became evident at around the age of 2 when he would totally take apart our remote controls and completely put them back together, correctly! He was “just tinkering”. As he got older this love carried on with computers, stereos, televisions, just about anything with electronics.

But it wasn’t just mechanics, he was also extremely book smart and was currently helping his mom learn French. There really was not anything he couldn’t do or learn to do when he put his mind to it.

Sheldon was an amazing cook and this became his career path, as his personality was always dedicated to serving and helping others. Anyone who ever worked with him in the kitchen also knows his subtle quick wit, sense of humor, and practical jokes made the job a fun adventure. His co-workers quickly became family and the feelings were mutual.

Osama Yousef, the owner of Lake James Grille, where Sheldon was currently employed, summed it up well, “Sheldon became a part of our family from the first day I met him, and he will be missed dearly.”

The family will hold a Celebration of Life in honor of Sheldon at 3:00p.m. on Sunday September 23, 2018 at Hallelujah Arena, 735 Hopewell Road Morganton, NC 28655

In lieu of flowers, Memorial contributions may be made to a Sheldon Brittain Memorial Fund, c/o Sossoman Funeral Home, P.O. Box 2608, Morganton, NC 28680. All contributions will be used to assist with the family’s sudden, unexpected expenses.
