Shelby Jean Chamberlain, born December 16, 1936 in Wilkes County, NC, ascended to Heaven on Tuesday afternoon, September 21, 2021. Her beloved son, Darrell Watson, daughter-in-law, Martha Watson, granddaughter, Kim Watson-Pitts and granddaughter-in-law, Kristin M. Watson were by her side.

She was preceded in death by her mother, Vannie Fairchild Hamby, her father, William Spencer Hamby, daughter, Danette Clark, and her husband, Al Chamberlain.

She is survived by her three sons, Brian Keith Watson, Darrell Eugene Watson, and Randall Lee Watson, daughter-in-laws, Martha Piercy Watson and Kimberly Dawn Watson. Her grandchildren, Kimberly Watson-Pitts, Amanda Kay Watson, Brian Keith Watson II, Darrell Eugene Watson, Brandy Wallace, Sheila Watson Christenbury, Deziray Warner, Anita Clark, Ava Clark, Eddie Clark, many great grandchildren and her furbaby Chloe.

Shelby Jean was a fiercely, strong and independent woman who loved to travel and spend time in the great outdoors. From the sandy beaches to the vast mountains, there was very little that could slow her down. She loved rainy days as she said they provided the best sleep.

She was a breast cancer survivor and in lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made to the WIG Bank of Caldwell County at www.wigbank.org/contribute.

The family will hold a private service at a later date.

Sossoman Funeral Home and Crematory Center is assisting the family with the arrangements.
