God received a truly incredible angel when Sharon Anne Settlemyre Shuffler, 66, of Morganton passed away Thursday, February 17, 2011 at Burke Palliative Care Center in Valdese following a lengthy illness. Born July 31, 1944 in Burke County, she was the daughter of the late Julius Homer Settlemyre and Willie Louise Hewitt Settlemyre. She grew up in Drexel and later lived in Valdese, Salem, and then spent the last 14 years of her life at her horse farm in Dysartsville. She was an extremely creative and talented person who loved to paint, knit and sew. She was very active in the Burke Quilt Guild and also in the local horse community, serving as past President of the McDowell Saddle and Bridle Club. She loved music and had a beautiful voice which she shared through singing and her infectious laughter. But her greatest joy was cooking and there are few in this area that did not have the chance to experience her culinary expertise.Sharon loved her family so very much and is survived by her sons, Scott Alan Shuffler of Asheville, and Will Joseph Shuffler and wife, Stephanie, of Morganton; her beloved grandson, Chandler Scott Shuffler; and a step-grandson Corbin Baker. In addition to her parents, Sharon was preceded in death by her brother, Ted Phillip Settlemyre.A Memorial Service will be held on Wednesday, February 23, 2011 at Mountain View #2 Baptist Church on Dysartsville Road at 2:00 pm with longtime friend, Jamie Buchanan officiating.
