Sarah Mae McGalliard Johnson, 87, of Linville St. in Glen Alpine, passed away peacefully surrounded by her loving family on Monday, October 3, 2011 at Burke Palliative Care Center in Valdese. Mrs. Johnson was born November 24, 1923 in Burke County to the late Avery and Lydia Arney McGalliard. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Louis Coleman ?Red? Johnson; son, Jerry ?Jock? Johnson; brother, James McGalliard; and a sister, Louise Anderson. She was a member of the Church of God in Longview, NC.Mrs. Johnson is survived by her daughters, Edna J. Scott and her late husband, Ronnie Scott, of Glen Alpine, Ruby ?Nell? Huffman and husband, Lee R. of Morganton, and Susan Snider and husband, Paul of Glen Alpine; daughter-in-law, Glenda Johnson of Glen Alpine; grandchildren, Micah Huffman, Brooke Mullins, Amanda McGee, and Misty Simmons; great-grandchildren, Curtis Huffman, Melina Keller, Grant Brown, Leya Brown, Stevee McGee, and Statlee McGee; a great-great-grandchild, Kinslee Huffman; sisters, Mary May, Betty Fleming, and Grace McGalliard; and brothers, Clyde McGalliard, and John McGalliard.A graveside service will be held at 3:00 p.m., Wednesday, October 5, 2011 at Glen Alpine Cemetery with the Reverends David Duncan and Ronnie Lyle officiating. The family will receive friends following the service at the Glen Alpine United Methodist Church Life Enrichment Center. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Burke Hospice and Palliative Care, Inc., 1721 Enon Rd., Valdese, NC 28690. Sossoman Funeral Home and Crematory Center is assisting the family with the arrangements.
