Samuel (Sam) Yount, 95, of Morganton, NC, passed away on Sunday, June 26, 2016 at Carolinas Healthcare System-Blue Ridge after a short illness. He was born on September 20, 1920 in Vale, NC to the late Samuel Walter Yount and Flossie Ramsey Yount. He attended North Morganton Baptist Church with his wife and was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Vale. Mr. Yount was a veteran of World War II serving in the United States Army. During his work career, he was employed by Huffman Hosiery Mill and later by Drexel Heritage. He was an avid cattle farmer and trader

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Marguerite “Maggie” Houston Yount; brother, Rev. Robert Yount; sisters, Estelle Wright and Louise Brown Bean.

Mr. Yount is survived by his daughters, Dinah Yount Gantt and husband, Michael, of Morganton and Patricia Ann Gray and husband, Howard, of Blowing Rock, NC; grandchildren, Elizabeth Brown, Edward Gray, Allison Crosby, Lee Pinkerton; 16 great-grandchildren and 5 great-great grandchildren; sisters, Katherine Goodman of Charlotte, NC and Bryte Mosteller of Drexel, NC; and a number of very close nieces and nephews.

A graveside service will be held at 11:00am on Wednesday, June 29, 2016 at Burke Memorial Park with the Rev. Kenneth Baker officiating. The family will speak to friends following the service. Military honors will be provided by the NC National Guard.
