Samuel Phillip Marcus, 72, of Secrest Street, Morganton, NC went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, January 6, 2008 at Grace Hospital. He was born September 10, 1935 in Avery County, NC to Paul and Martha Jane Dellinger Marcus. Samuel attended Full Gospel Church where he was a faithful servant of the Lord. He was a US Army Veteran of the Korean Conflict, and was honorably discharged in 1971. Samuel worked for the Wamsutta High Pile Plant until it closed, and then worked at Crest Line Furniture and Breeden Poultry. He was loving, kind, patient, and alreadys ready to help anyone. Samuel’s presence will be greatly missed.He is survived by his wife, Mary Marcus of the home; grandchildren, Jessica Wright, Abigail, Joseph, and Timothy Marcus, mother-in-law, Jenny Self; sisters-in-law, Mildred Thames, Jewel Self, Melva Self, and Patsy Stamey and husband, Virgil; brother-in-law, Edward Self and wife, Peggy; a brother, Jimmy Marcus and wife, Lucy, of Spruce Pine, NC; sisters, Mildred Wilson and husband, Bernhard, of Morganton, and Shirley Mitchell and husband, Eairn, of Lenoir, NC; numerous nieces and nephews; and many other family members and friends.In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by sons, Roy and Paul Marcus; and sisters, Belle Burleson, Rosaly Hopson, and Esther Webb.Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Wednesday, January 9, 2008 in the Colonial Chapel of Sossoman Funeral Home with Rev. Scott Evans officiating. Burial will follow at Pleasant Ridge Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends Wednesday from 1 until 2 pm at the funeral home.
