Sam McCord

Sam McCord, 71, of Nebo, NC died Saturday, October 13, 2012 at his residence following a period of declining health. He was born in Caldwell County on October 3, 1941 and was the son of the late William Samuel McCord, Jr. and Carrie Morgan McCord. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Barbara Allison. Sam graduated from North Carolina School for the Deaf in 1962 and retired from NCSD after 35 years as a dorm supervisor. He also served as vice-president of the NCSD Museum. He was a member of Grace Episcopal Church.Surviving are his wife of 41 years, Geraldine Martin McCord of the home; a son, Deweese "Mark" McCord, of Kings Mountain; and a sister, Donna Smolik and her husband, Larry, of Charlotte.A memorial service will be held at 7:00 P.M. Wednesday, October 17, 2012 at Grace Episcopal Church with The Reverend Mike Jenkins, Deacon, officiating. The family will receive friends from 5:00 till 7:00 p.m, Wednesday in the parish hall. At other times the family will at the home in Nebo. Sossoman Funeral Service and Crematory Center is assisting the family with arrangements.
