It is with great sadness that the family of Mrs. Ryma Gayle Scott Puett announce her passing on Tuesday, February 27, 2018 at Burke Hospice and Palliative Care in Valdese. She was born on September 1, 1945, in Morganton to Mr. Gorman Lee Scott and Myrtle Beula Weatherford.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her beloved daughter, Renetta Gayle Puett Waddell.

Ryma graduated from Morganton High School. Shortly after marrying Joseph Puett they set off across the country to Arizona where Joe was stationed with the Air Force. Her first child, Renetta, was born in AZ. After moving back to NC, Ryma worked for a year as a Teachers Aid at the North Carolina School for the Deaf. Ryma worked with First Insurance Company in Morganton and also worked as an Insurance Agent in Mooresville.

She dedicated many years to supporting her husband Joe through his career as Chief of Police in Clinton, NC and Mooresville, NC. Ryma created a beautiful home and she loved making delicious meals for her family.  Everyone loved Ryma’s cooking, she always made sure no one went hungry when visiting.

Ryma was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She loved her family and they meant the world to her! She leaves to cherish with years of wonderful memories, her beloved husband of fifty-one years, Joseph Jennings Puett and her son, Lance Jeffrey Puett and his wife Becky. She was blessed with 5 granddaughters whom she was very proud of: Casey Waddell Nealy and husband Stephen, Kelli Waddell Jones and husband Connor, Leslie Anne Waddell, Addalyn Grace Puett, and Abigail Hope Puett. She also leaves behind a great-grandson, William Jackson Nealy and soon-to-arrive Jennings Nealy. Ryma bequeathed her body to the advancement of medicine by donating her body to Bowmen Gray Center for Medical Education.

A memorial service commemorating her life will be held on Saturday, April 7, 2018, 1:00pm at Sossoman Funeral Home in Morganton.

In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Burke Hospice and Palliative Care. The family would like to express their sincere appreciation for the special caregivers at the Burke Hospice and Palliative Care.
