Ruth Elizabeth Brotherton Milligan, 74, of Morganton, NC died Tuesday, March 6, 2018. Born July 17, 1943 in Burke County, she was a daughter of the late William Roscoe Brotherton and Ada Elizabeth Epley.
Mrs. Milligan was a member of Pleasant Ridge Baptist Church. She loved the Lord. Ruth was a good and loving wife, mother, and grandmother. She was very protective of her children and her family came first. Watching the grandkids play sports was the highlight of her day and her children said she was a #1 mom. She welcomed in her in-laws as if they were her own family.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by brothers, James, Jay, Frank, and Junior Brotherton and sister, Mary Carswell.
Mrs. Milligan is survived by her husband, Joseph “Jack” Milligan, and sons, Roy Milligan, Ralph Milligan and wife, Peggy, and Tony Milligan and wife, Marsha all of Morganton. Also surviving are grandchildren, Dustin, Anthony, Tyler, Hunter, and Perry Milligan, Lance and Eric Tallent, and Dillon and Emily Orr and great-grandchildren, Riley Milligan, Jett Tallent, Hayslee and Reid Milligan, and Remi Milligan.
The family will receive friends from 5 – 7 p.m., Thursday, March 8, 2018 at Sossoman Funeral Home. The funeral will be 2 p.m., Friday, March 9, 2018 at Pleasant Ridge Baptist Church with Rev. Richard Ellington officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
