Roy Hartwell “Bill” Buff, 92, of Morganton died Sunday, January 26, 2020.  He was born in Morganton to the late Coy Buff and Minnie Cook Buff, with the assistance of midwife Nancy Jones.  Bill was a member of Calvary Baptist Church and Valdese First Baptist Church.  Between the two churches, he taught Sunday school for 40 years.  He was a US Army veteran, serving from 1946 – 1947.  He worked for Mull Oil for over 40 years, serving as vice president for many years.

Bill is survived by his wife, Edna D. Golding Buff of the home; son, R. Lynn Buff (Karen) of Nashville, TN; sisters, Mozelle Buff Wilson, Mae Buff Morrow, and Doris Jean Buff Edge; and a brother, Doug Buff; step-children, Lynn Golding Cash of Blowing Rock, Sandy Golding Bolick (Clay) of High Point, Angela Golding of Morganton, and Dr. Jay Golding of Summerfield, NC; step-grandchildren, Josh Cash (Jenna), Jenny Cash Bryk (Cory), Jamie Cash Glover (Sam), Mandy Bolick Butler (Reid), and Kelly Bolick, Austin Golding, and Elle, Elise, and Emerson Golding; and twelve step-great-grandchildren.

In addition to his parents, Bill was preceded in death by his first wife of 43 years, Janet Fowler Buff; sisters, Sue Buff Fowler, Floy Buff Grubb.

The family will receive friends from 1 to 2 p.m., Saturday, February 1, 2020 at Valdese First Baptist Church.  The funeral will be held at 2 p.m. in the church with Dr. Barry Keys officiating.  Music will be provided by organist, Amber Keys, and Tommy Rhoney will lead the choir.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Burke United Christian Ministries.

Sossoman Funeral Home and Crematory Center is assisting the family with the arrangements.
