Uncle Roy had a heart of gold. He was so much more than an uncle to my brother and me; he was a father figure during our childhood. We feel so lucky to have grown up with his kindness and guidance. I will never forget when I was growing up he would come pick me up in Tennessee to spend part of my summers with the family in NC. And my love for the lake begins with him. He would always take us to Lake James for a swim. And he also taught me how to drive. Every time I asked, "Let's go for a drive," he’d say yes, and we’d take off to the waterhole. He gave us so much of his time and heart. I'm forever grateful for his love and will always cherish the memories.
