Roy Dana Nantz, Jr., 82, of Shelby, NC went to his heavenly home on Friday, November 2, 2018.  Born in Burke County, NC on November 7, 1935, he was the son of the late Roy Dana Nantz and Ruth Ivalee Hartley Nantz.  In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Roy Dana Nantz, III.

Roy served in the U.S. Air Force from 1955 to 1965, which prepared him for a position at Duke Medical Center, where he enjoyed his work in medical research.  His final career move brought him to Shelby where he served as the Director of Cardiorespiratory Care at the Cleveland Regional Medical Center.

Roy’s passion was spending time outdoors on his tractor and tending to his gardens.  He had a great sense of humor that brought much laughter and joy to the hearts of those who knew and loved him.  He is remembered as an honest and caring man who would always look for the best in those around him.  He was that rare man who was steady, strong, kind, and loving, serving as an example his children strive daily to emulate.

Roy is survived by his wife of 63 years, Helen Ramsey Nantz of the home; children, Annette Harton (Herb) of Wilmington, Julie Kornegay (Dock) of Clayton, Dan Nantz (Lorrie) of Albemarle, and Sarah Philbeck (Ron) of Shelby; granddaughters, Jenny, Sophie, Haley, Katie, Emma, and Polly; and great-granddaughters, Halle and Madison.

The family will receive friends from 2 to 3 p.m., Wednesday, November 7, 2018 at Mountain Grove United Methodist Church.  The funeral will be held at 3 p.m. in the church with Rev. Tim Ramsey officiating.  Burial will follow in the church cemetery with military honors provided by the U. S. Air Force.

Sossoman Funeral Home and Crematory Center is assisting the family with the arrangements.
