Roxie Emelia Stroupe Watson, 81, of Morganton, passed away Saturday, April 19, 2025 at Grace Heights after a period of declining health. Roxie was born August 24, 1943 in Camp Stoneman, California to Joseph and Ruth Isaacs Stroupe. She attended school at Glen Alpine where she was a cheerleader, in the band and on the homecoming court. On September 7, 1974, she married Gary Wade Watson who passed away in 2019. Roxie began attending Mount Home Baptist Church as a child with her Aunt Rosa Lee Isaacs and became a lifelong member. There she made many friends and became active in church activities. Through the years Roxie sang in the choir, played handbells, worked with the children, played the piano, and counted the money. She was always faithful in everything she did. She especially loved gospel music and going to singings with her friends. In her career, Roxie worked at several banks in the Morganton area. She began at 1st National Bank which later became Wachovia. Then she worked for Wells Fargo before retiring. After retirement, Roxie became a security guard at Freedom High School and Patton High School. Roxie had one sister, Vonda, who preceded her in death. A graveside service will be held at 4 p.m., Tuesday, April 29, 2025 at Burke Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Mount Home Baptist Church, 2272 Mt. Home Church Road, Morganton, NC 28655, in honor of Roxie. Sossoman Funeral Home and Crematory Center is assisting the family with the arrangements.
