Rondal “Ronnie” Vance, 73, of Morganton, NC passed away Wednesday, May 25, 2016. He was born in Mitchell County, NC on December 25, 1942 and was the son of the late Malcolm Pershing Vance and Hope Benfield Vance. Ronnie was devoted father, grandfather, and great-grandfather who loved his family dearly. He served in the US Navy during the Vietnam War serving on The USS Independence, USS Coral Sea (CVA-43) as well as on a combat river boat as a River Rat. Ronnie loved to cook and garden and make people laugh.
He is survived by son, Ronald “Bo” Vance; daughters, Ilene Dellinger, Sheila Davis and husband, Greg, and Connie Dellinger; sisters, Roseanne Sarnick and husband, George of NY, and Nelda Entress, of Avery County; brother, Gene Vance and wife, Frances, of Morganton; and six grandchildren, seven great grandchildren, and numerous nieces, nephews and extended family.
A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, June 11, 2016 at Stameytown Baptist Church with Pastor Jeff Brewer officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends following the burial.
