Roger T. "Ramjet" Coleman, 65, of Connelly Springs, NC died Thursday, May 29, 2014 following a lengthy illness. Born December 7, 1948 in Burke County, NC, he was a son of Russell Coleman of Cherryville, NC and the late Zeta Lee Whisnant Coleman. Roger served in the US Army during the Vietnam War. He worked as a welder, and in later years taught himself to do wood carvings. He made crosses, walking sticks, birds, and many other carvings.In addition to his father, Roger is survived by his wife, Debra Fredell Coleman of the home; a son, Cody Coleman of Drexel; a daughter, Maggie Coleman Scronce and her husband, Jacob of Drexel; sisters, Cheryl Helgestad of Cherryville and Debbie Curley and her husband, Wayne of SC; and a number of niece, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews. Roger was also preceded in death by a brother, Leland Coleman.A graveside service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, June 3, 2014 at Drexel Memorial Park with military honors conducted by the NC National Guard and the Caldwell County Veterans Honor Guard. In lieu of flowers the family suggests memorial contributions be made to a church of one’s choice.Sossoman Funeral Home and Crematory Center is assisting the family.
