Roger Lamar Thomas, 64, of Morganton passed away Thursday, May 7, 2015. Born in Colbert County, AL on January 22, 1951, he was the son of J.M. Thomas and Glenice K. Thomas. Roger graduated from Morganton High School and was presented with the Perk Reinhardt Scholarship for Unsung Heroes. Roger worked for various Roses Department Stores for 20 years. He then returned home and worked at the Burke County Youth Correctional Facility, from which he retired.
Roger was a long-standing member of the Morganton Moose Lodge #193, where he serving as Administrator and was a Past Governor. He was also the WENOCA Legion President, Past District President, had his Fellowship Degree, and was presently working towards his Pilgrim Degree. He was also a member of the Masonic Lodge and was a Shriner.
Roger is survived by his parents; son, Chip Thomas of Hendersonville; brother, John Thomas and wife, Julie, of TN; sisters, Mikki Baker and husband, Jeff, of Morganton and Jan Cheves of Florida; a grandson, Cameron, and many nieces and nephews.
Roger was preceded in death by his wife of 46 years, Sandra I. Thomas and a brother, Gerald Thomas.
No services are planned at this time.
Sossoman Funeral Home and Crematory Center is assisting the family with the arrangements.
