Robert “Wayne” Denton, 66, of Connelly Springs, NC died Wednesday, December 30, 2015.  Born in Burke County, NC on June 9, 1949, he was the son of the late Julius Franklin Denton and Sarah Barbara Stamey Denton.  Wayne was a member of Pleasant Grove Baptist Church where he taught Sunday school and the RAs.  He was a U.S. Army veteran of the Vietnam era.

A loving husband, father, and grandfather, Mr. Denton is survived by his wife, Faye “Judy” Williams Denton of the home; sons, William Franklin Denton of Connelly Springs, Joseph “Joey” Edward Denton and his wife, Rebecca “Beccah” Danielle Giles, of Hickory, NC, and Jody Robert Morrison of Connelly Springs; grandchildren, Macie Lynn Morrison, Hannah Love Cantrell, Christopher O’Neal Pruett, Joseph  “Little Joe” Edward Denton, Jr., Liam Ka-Lel Denton, Pheobe Aiyanah Hall, and Layla McKenzie Denton; a great-grandson, Simon Converse Shull; brothers, Paul Denton and his wife, Patsy, of Morganton, David Denton and his wife, Myrtle, of Morganton, NC, and Danny Denton of Connelly Springs; and a sister, Carolyn York of Morganton.

In addition to his parents, Wayne was preceded in death by a son, John Wayne Denton.

The family will receive friends from 6 – 8 p.m., Friday, January 1, 2016 at Sossoman Funeral Home.  The funeral will be held at 2 p.m., Saturday, January 2, 2016 at Pleasant Grove Baptist Church with the Reverends Douglas Price and Jason Hoyle officiating.  Burial will follow in the church cemetery with military honors provided by the N.C. National Guard and the Caldwell County Veterans Honor Guard.

At other times the family will be at the residence on Old NC 18.
