Robert Pinkney “R.P.” Digh, 95, of Morganton died Thursday, August 14, 2014. Born in Burke County, NC on December 5, 1918, he was the son of the late John Cletus Digh and Nettie Rhoney Digh. R.P. was a U.S. Navy veteran of WWII and was a former employee of Morganton Full Fashion Hosiery. He retired from Henredon Furniture where he as a master upholsterer. Mr. Digh was an avid gardener, a faithful Atlanta Braves fan, and was a member of St. Mary’s Episcopal Church.

R.P. is survived by his grandchildren, Tim Digh and his wife, Ellen, of Mt. Holly, NC, Melanie D. Petrea and her husband, Randy, of Boiling Springs, SC, and Holly D. Puckett and her husband, Johnny, of Murfreesboro, TN; great-grandchildren, Erin Petrea, Ryan Petrea, Taylor Digh, Haley Puckett, Ally Puckett, and Dalton Puckett; a brother, Bill Digh of Morganton; a sister, Margie Moses of Greensboro, NC; and his caregiver, Rhonda Brewer.

In addition to his parents, R.P. was preceded in death by his wife, Lillian Warlick Digh; a son, Gary Digh; daughters, Lover Digh and Paula Sue Digh; and a number of brothers and sisters.

The funeral will be held at 1:00 p.m., Saturday, August 16, 2014 at St. Mary’s Episcopal Church with The Rev. Francis King officiating. Burial will follow in Burke Memorial Park with military honors provided by the U.S. Navy and the Caldwell County Veterans Honor Guard. The family will receive friends Friday evening from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. at Sossoman Funeral Home and Crematory Center.
