Robert Lewis “Hawk” Hollifield, 73, of Morganton, died Tuesday, February 3, 2015. He was born in Cleveland County on August 6, 1941, to the late Ralph Lester Hollifield and Sallie Pauline Lingerfelt Hollifield. Mr. Hollifield was a member of Zion Baptist Church and attended McDowell Independent Presbyterian Church. He loved his church and really enjoyed mission work. He loved driving his truck, singing, playing the guitar and watching Westerns. He also enjoyed spending time with his family and children. He was a loving husband, father and “paw-paw.”
Mr. Hollifield is survived by his wife of 56 years, Delores “Mickie” Lambert Hollifield; children, Rusty Hollifield and his wife, Anna of Morganton, Jeff Hollifield and his fiancé, Veda of Hildebrand, Penny Wiseman and her husband, Marty of Morganton, Robbie Hollifield and his wife, Apryl of Morganton; grandchildren, Rusty Jr., Aleigha, Ethan, Megan, Crysta, Josh, Jacob, Chris, Caleb, Hannah, Mason, Suni, and Katelyn; great-grandchildren, Tyler, Kora, Kannon, Kira, and Hunter; eight step-brothers and sisters; step-father, Robert Cook of Vale, NC; and special friends, Tim and Robert Freeman. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Paula Hollifield; granddaughter, Samantha Hollifield; parent-in-laws, Charles and Virginia Lambert.
The funeral will be held at 2:00 pm, Friday, February 6, 2015 at Zion Baptist Church with the Rev. Keith Rose and Rev. Dennis Carswell officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. Memorial contributions may be made to Zion Baptist Church, 3394 Pea Ridge Road, Morganton, NC 28655 or McDowell Independent Presbyterian Church, 4950 McDowell Church Road, Morganton, NC 28655. Sossoman Funeral Home and Crematory Center is assisting the family with the arrangements.

Big Robbie...I am saddened to have just learned of your passing. You and Mickie were more than cousins, like an aunt and uncle with Little Robbie like a brother. You taught me so many things about automobiles and about keeping your word. May the River Styx flow slower with your passing as you were loved by all. May the family be blessed.
