Robert Grady “R. G.” Swink

Robert Grady “R. G.” Swink, 94, of Hickory died Sunday, September 22, 2019.  He was born in Burke County, NC on August 25, 1925.  He was the son of the late William Harrison Swink and Annie Jane Speagle Smith Swink.  R. G. was a member of Zion Road Baptist Church and loved his family and friends.  He was a U.S. Army veteran of WWII and retired from Drexel Heritage Furniture Company with 30 years of service.

R. G. is survived by his sons, Ed “Eddy” Denton (Carolyn), Ron “Ronny” Swink (Lisa), and Robert David Swink; daughters, Sharon Swink Cain (James) and Debbie White; grandchildren, Chris Denton, Graham Peahuff (Brooks), Scott Swink (Debbie), Jimmy “Scooter” Piercy (Amy), Heather Henry (Matthew), and Dustin Swink; ten great-grandchildren; and sisters, Jane Cooper and Hazel Dellinger.

In addition to his parents, R. G. was preceded in death by a son, Randy Beausoliel; brothers, Leroy Smith, John Swink, Calvin, Swink, Bud Swink, and Alvin Swink; and sisters, Eva Carswell and Nellie Blackwelder.

The family will receive friends from 12 to 1 p.m., Wednesday, September 25, 2019 at Zion Road Baptist Church.  The funeral will be held at 1 p.m. in the church with Revs. Micah Piercy and Donald Denton officiating.  Military honors will be provided by the NC National Guard and the Caldwell County Veterans Honor Guard.
