Robert Frederick "Bob" Bauer

Robert Frederick "Bob" Bauer, 71, of Nebo died Saturday, November 8, 2014. He was born December 30, 1942, to the late Harold F. Bauer and Marjorie Ann Hansen Bauer. Bob grew up in Douglaston, New York and graduated from Hope College in 1964, and married "the girl next door" on June 25, 1966.
Bob received his Masters in American History in 1969 from Long Island University. He was a teacher who taught kindergarten - college. While on Long Island he taught history at the junior and senior high level for 32 years and the Senior Seminar class at St. Joseph's College for 8 years. Bob and his wife, "Biff" retired to Morganton, NC in 1998. Soon thereafter, they shared a position teaching English as a Second Language at Chesterfield Elementary School. He was also an adjunct at Western Piedmont Community College where he taught European and World Civilizations.
Bob loved his family and he also enjoyed sailing, boating, flying, and horseback riding. He was an active member of and served on the consistory at St. Paul's Episcopal Church.
Bob is survived by his wife, Elizabeth "Biff” Bauer; son, Charles F. Bauer and wife, Robin of Wilkesboro, NC; daughter, Katherine Shields and husband, David of Glen Alpine; grandchildren, Alex, Ashley, Matthew, Madison, Kate, Payton, Emma, Chelsey, Zack, and Baylee; great-granddaughter, Rorie, and a brother, Frederick Anthony Bauer and wife, Joanne of Swannanoa, NC
There will be a memorial service at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, November 15, 2014 at St. Paul's Episcopal Church at Lake James with the Rev. James Rains officiating. Refreshments will be served in the Parish Hall following the service. Powerhouse Rd, Morganton, NC 28655.
