Robert “Danny” Shelton, 69, of Morganton, NC passed away on Monday, December 29, 2025. He was born in Burke County, NC on August 25, 1956 to the late Robert Jack Shelton and Margie Brackett Shelton. He enjoyed fishing, hiking, biking, playing his guitar and listening to his vinyl records. He loved the mountains, Atlanta Braves and Tarheel basketball. Danny also enjoyed going to family gatherings and his Linville Gorge hikes with his family.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, David Shelton.

He is survived by his wife, Patricia ‘Trish” Corman Shelton; son, Eric Shelton (Melissa); brother, Mark Shelton (Patricia); nephews, Chad Shelton, Joshua Shelton (Megan), and Crew McCarthy; sister-in-law, Pamela McCarthy; Irlanda Mayo, who was like a sister and her kids, whom Danny considered his grandkids; Tyler, Marley, and Bryson Mayo.

A Celebration of Life is planned for Danny on Saturday, January 10, 2026, at the family home. Please contact the family for details.

Sossoman Funeral Home and Crematory Center is assisting the family with the arrangements.

Many fond memories from childhood. Growing up together playing basketball, football and baseball together in the yard and on organized teams. The time we fished the Linville River together along with Mark. We are praying for the family.
