Robert Allan Forbes, 65 of Pax Hill Rd., Morganton, NC died Saturday, May 10, 2008 at the Charles George Veterans Administration Medical Center, Asheville, NC. Born August 19, 1942, he was a son of Calvin and Loretta Forbes of Fargo, ND. Bob was a loving and devoted husband, son, father, grandfather and a friend to all who knew him. He served his country with the U. S. Navy and was a generous volunteer with many organizations including Chesterfield Ruritan and the Morganton Elks Lodge. An avid golfer, he was a former member of Mimosa Hills Golf and Country Club, and in 1989, in Black River Falls, WI, the Bob Forbes Classic Golf Tournament was named in his honor. Bob was a wonderful gardener, a terrific story teller, and an avid hunter and fisherman. He was an active member of North Morganton United Methodist Church. Living life to the fullest was his purpose.In addition to his parents, he is survived by his wife, Grace William Forbes of the home; children, Sandra Marie Forbes of Burnsville, MN, Steven Robert Forbes and his wife, Christine of Maple Grove, MN, and Mishelle "Poo" Lee Forbes of Edina, MN; step-children, Virginia Nichols and her husband, Chris of Clemmons, NC and Robert Johnston of Morganton; grandchildren, Angeline, Calvin, Addison, Matthew, and Ryan; a sister, Bonnie "Susie" Turner of Fargo, ND; a brother, Don Forbes and his wife, Lynda of Saint Cloud, MN; his ex-wife, Marjorie Forbes of Burnsville, MN; three nieces, two nephews, and many, many close friends.A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, May 14, 2008 at North Morganton United Methodist Church with the Rev. Tony Matthews officiating. The family will receive friends at the church for one hour before the service. Memorial gifts may be made to North Morganton United Methodist Church, 990 Sanford Dr., Morganton, NC 28655 or to a charity of the donor’s choice.
