Ricky Tilton went to be with our lord and savior on 1/2/26. Ricky was born and raised in Pamplico, SC to Liston and Ruby Tilton. He graduated from Pamplico high-school before attending Free Will Baptist Bible College in Nashville, TN. Where he obtained a bachelor's degree. Later having a long and full career as an insurance specialist before retiring.
Ricky is proceeded in death by his Father (Liston), and sister (Nancy). He leaves behind his wife Cheryl, his Mother (Ruby), Sisters (Sandra and Amy), children (Richard and wife Genia, Julie and husband Steve, Michael, Lori and husband Robert, Nick and wife Kristiann and Nate) and his many grandchildren (Mauricio, Kane and wife Savanna, Malerie and fiancé Ben, Rylan, Noah, Bryson, Emory, Sabrya, Korbann, Kayleigh, Journey, Liston, Ayana, Emma, and Joseph
Ricky was a faithful Christian and active member at Catawba Valley Baptist Church, helping with the sound booth, leader of the build and grounds committee, and volunteering for many mission trips to help others.
Ricky (N4WYK, WK4R) was heavily involved in the amateur radio community. It was a passion that lasted for a lifetime, only made possible by the fellow operators he befriended. His dedication to service, professionalism, and care for others shined through during difficult moments.
Ricky had no shortage of hobbies and interests, always striving to learn and develop. He was involved in Model trains, electronics, radios, wood working, RC cars and countless other interests. A collector of hobbies, knowledge, and skills.
While Rick will be sorely missing by both family and friends, we take comfort in the knowledge that he put his faith in our savior Jesus Christ, and is walking with our lord, his grandmother, his father and sister. We look forward to the day that we are reunited with him in the kingdom of Heaven.
The family will receive friends from 2pm until 4pm, Saturday, January 17, 2026 at Catawba Valley Baptist Church. A memorial service will follow at 4pm in the church.
Sossoman Funeral Home and Crematory Center is assisting the family with the arrangements.
Tribute Wall
Leave a tribute for Ricky Tilton.
Going to miss you my brother. 40 years of adventures between radio and just being a great friend. Will miss my voice of reason. Always giving each other jabs about you being older. Will remember our last conversation just days before the Lord said it was time to come home. I will see you when its my turn. Keep the lights on for us till we get there.
Cheryl and family I am so sorry about Rick. Rylan and Emory, David and I are so sorry for your loss . He was a sweet soul, and I am so glad you had 16 years with him. But I wished you could have had many more years. We love you so very much!!
It is with a profound sadness knowing that Rick is no longer here with us in body. Yet in spirit he lives on. We moved next to Rick and Cheryl a few years ago and instantly they both welcomed us with open arms. We are so grateful to have met him and we will forever hold a special place for him in our hearts. Our deepest sympathies to his family. Shane, Conny, Jayden, Giovani and Mia.
Rick: I will see you when I get there. All my best to the family.
Cheryl and all family and friends: I am so very sorry to hear about Rick's passing. I hadn't got to see or talk to Rick in a long time, but I always thought very highly of Rick. All of you are in my thoughts and prayers for peace and comfort. RIP Rick. 73 Perry and Rita
I enjoyed working with Rick when I helped on that trailer that the church rebuilt for the lady I learned from Rick he could do almost everything.
Ricky and Carlos were longtime friends from college up until his passing. The memories they both shared will never be forgotten and will be told to their children. They both had a passion for woodworking and did many projects together while Ricky lived here in Tennessee and those are some of the memories Carlos will treasure the most. As their friendship grew stronger they were in each other’s wedding, watch their children grow and develop into amazing adults. Ricky will always have a special place in Carlos’s heart, but God has His angel with Him now. Ricky, you will never be forgotten and will be greatly missed. Spread your wings dear friend.
My uncle will be missed. I will always remember his humor and wit. It made him so much fun to be around. We will be praying during this time of grief. Wish I could be there.
