Richard McCoy “Bubba” Herman, 71, of Morganton, NC passed away Tuesday, January 24, 2017 at his residence. Born in Burke County on June 6, 1945, he was the son of the late Noah McCoy Herman and Sarah Inez Arney Herman.

Bubba was a lifetime member of Glen Alpine United Methodist Church and a retired employee of Rexnord. After retirement, he worked for many years at the Thrifty Market in Glen Alpine. He was an active volunteer with many local charitable organizations and member and past President of Oak Hill Ruritan. He was a hardworking man. Was he perfect? No. Was he overly successful? Not really. But, he was the best “Bubba” we ever had. Bubba was fond of baseball, NASCAR, classic trucks and cars, homemade wine (for sippin’ not drinking), trains, and women. He never met a pair he didn’t like, if you know what we mean. Bubba was not a fan of Facebook, talking on the phone in a check-out line, or lazy people. However, Bubba cared about everyone. His sisters, his children, his granddaughters, his in-laws, nieces, nephews, neighbors, and co-workers were all very important to him indicated by his countless photos adorning his home. There will never be another Bubba like you and we will miss you dearly.

Bubba is survived by son, Travis McCoy Herman and wife, Brittiany of Fletcher; daughter, Tahara Lee Herman of Glen Alpine; and grandchildren, Emerald LyCloud “Mo” Herman and Taydan MicaPhara “Tater” Herman. He is also survived by sister, Katrina Herman Avery and husband, Joe of Morganton; many nephews and nieces; and a friend for over fifty years, Linda Watson Anderson of Morganton.

In addition to his parents, Bubba was preceded in death by son, Richard Michael Herman and sister, Rowena Gay Herman Michael.

A Celebration of Life will be held at 6:30 p.m., Friday, January 27, 2017 at Glen Alpine United Methodist Church with Rev. Barbara Mayo and Rev. Joe Greene officiating. The family will receive friends following the service in the church Life Enrichment Center.

Memorial contributions may be made to Glen Alpine United Methodist Church, PO Box 576, Glen Alpine, NC 28628 or to Burke Hospice and Palliative Care, 1721 Enon Road, Valdese, NC 28690.

Sossoman Funeral Home and Crematory Center is assisting the family with the arrangements.
