Richard Douglas "Dick" Call, 80, of Morganton, passed away on Monday, April 2, 2012. Born on October 6, 1931 in Franklin, PA, he was the son of the late Robert Douglas Call and Audine Roberta Call. Richard was a graduate of Baldwin-Wallace College in Berea, OH, where he met and married his wife. He was a salesman for Colgate-Palmolive until he retired. Dick lived in Livonia, MI until he recently moved to Grace Ridge Retirement Community in Morganton to be closer to his daughter.Dick was an avid jazz enthusiast and sports fan. He will be remembered for his generosity, sense of humor, intellect, and soft heart. He was of the Lutheran Faith and was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force.Dick is survived by his daughter, Roberta Call Kogut and husband, Bob, of Lenoir, NC; a granddaughter, Emelia Louise Kogut; and many other family and friends.In addition to his parents, Dick was preceded in death by his wife, Carol Adele Schirmer Call; a son, Matthew Douglas Call; and a sister, Janet Ruth Kelsey.The funeral will be held at 2:00 p.m., Wednesday, April 4, 2012 in the Colonial Chapel of Sossoman Funeral Home with Rev. Michael Riley officiating. The family will receive friends Tuesday evening from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to Burke Hospice and Palliative Care, Inc., 1721 Enon Road, Valdese, NC 28690.
