Richard Dennis Watts, 73, of Morganton, N.C., died Sunday, September 20, 2015. Born in Burke County on May 21, 1942, he was the son of the late Henry Edison "Bud" Watts and Grace Kiddy Watts. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by an older brother, Henry Edison Watts, Jr. Dennis, as he liked to be called, worked most of his adult life in local furniture factories. He grew up a member of Southside Baptist Church.
He is survived by a sister, Carolyn Watts Smith and husband, Grover of Charlotte, N.C., and a brother, Thomas R. Watts and wife, Karen of Celina, Ohio; aunts, Bettijoe Watts Harbison and Ruby Clay Kiddy, both of Morganton; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
A memorial service to honor Mr. Watts' life will be conducted at 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, September 29th, 2015 in the Colonial Chapel of Sossoman Funeral Home with Dr. Thomas A. Bland, Jr. officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made to Southside Baptist Church, P. O. Box 2306, Morganton, N. C 28680-2306.
