Reta Mae Carpenter Franklin, 82, of Drexel, went home to be with her Maker on Friday, April 7, 2017. Reta was born on October 17, 1934, the youngest daughter of the late William Spurgeon Carpenter and Fannie Mae Lambert Carpenter of Valdese.
Reta married Luther Cecil Franklin on April 9, 1950, and together they raised four children. She was a member of Drexel First Church of God.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her loving husband, Cecil; and sisters, Blanche Huffman, Grace Lowman, Ruth Hollar, and Ruby Sigmon.
Survived by her sons, Robert Franklin, and Mark Franklin and wife, Marie; daughters, Vicki Pendley, and Robin McNeely; grandchildren, Tammy Burnette and husband, Jonathan, Jeffery Campbell, LeAnn McNeely, Robbie Franklin and wife, Ashley, and Ally Franklin; and great-grandchildren, Sydney Burnette and Sara Burnette.
A very special thank you to the caring staff at Autumn Care of Drexel.
The family will receive friends from 2 to 3 p.m., Monday, April 10, at Sossoman Funeral Home and Crematory Center. A memorial service will follow at 3 p.m. in the Colonial Chapel of Sossoman Funeral Home with Rev. Don Smith officiating. Burial will follow at Drexel First Church of God Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to Drexel First Church of God, P.O. Box 218, Drexel, NC 28619.
Sossoman Funeral Home and Crematory Center is assisting the family with the arrangements.
