Reba Black Baker, 93, of Drexel, NC met her Guardian Angel and was escorted to Heaven on Sunday, January 3, 2016.  Born in Gaston County, NC on September 30, 1922, she was the daughter of the late William Bess Black and Edna Arizona Nolen Black.  Reba was a member of Drexel First Church of God and a retired employee of Drexel Knitting Mill. She was a wonderful woman who shared generously and who loved deeply. Reba was a rock to her family and will be greatly missed!!

Mrs. Baker is survived by her daughters, Zona Monaghan and her husband, Peter, of Wilmington, NC and Judy Garrard and her husband, Jim, of Tega Cay, SC; a daughter-in-law, Lois Baker of Drexel; grandchildren, Mark Baker and his wife, Linda, Greg Baker and his wife, Susan, Teresa Walker, Jodi Powell and her husband, Scott, and Philip Powell and his wife, Holly; great-grandchildren, Sumer Woods and her husband, Matt, Chelsea Foster, Jada Spake, Douglas Baker, Sara Baker, Mary Baker, Lauren Baker, Elizabeth Baker, Tray Powell, Anderson Stamey, and Callie Powell; and a great-great-grandson, Tucker Jones.

In addition to her parents, Reba was preceded in death by her husband, Henry Martin “Pepe” Baker, Sr.; a son, Henry Martin Baker, Jr.; a son-in-law, Joe Traylor; and sisters, Bea Horton, Ruth Powell, and Peggy Rhoney.

The family will receive friends from 11 a.m. – 12 p.m., Saturday, January 9, 2016 at Drexel First Church of God.  The funeral will be held at the church at 12 p.m. with the Rev. Don Smith officiating.  Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

Sossoman Funeral Home and Crematory Center is assisting the family with the arrangements.
