Ray Alvin Barger, 86, of Drexel Rd. in Morganton died Friday, November 26, 2010 at Autumn Care of Drexel. Born October 24, 1924 in Catawba County, he was a son of the late Zenas E. Barger and Lela Bolick Barger. Ray was a very active member of Trinity Baptist Church where he served as a Deacon. He loved gardening, his family, and his church.Ray is survived by his wife, Lucy Mull Barger of the home; daughters, Sandra Walker and husband, Melvin "Bud", and Kathy Crowe and husband, Boyce, all of Morganton; grandchildren, Melita Whisnant, Shelly Hunt, Kelly Crowe, Angela Lassiter, and Kristina Barger; and great-grandchildren, Juliana Whisnant, Alex Whisnant, Sydney Hunt, Ethan Hunt, Katelyn Lassiter, Sarah Lassiter, and Kaleb Crowe.In addition to his parents, Ray was preceded in death by a son, Ronnie Barger; two sisters, Nina Barger and Marie Barger; and an infant baby brother.Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m., Monday, November 29, 2010 at Trinity Baptist Church with Rev. Scott Moneyham officiating. Burial will follow at Burke Memorial Park. The family will receive friends Sunday from 2:00 until 4:00 p.m. at Sossoman Funeral Home where the body will remain until placed in the church thirty minutes before the service.
