Rassie Orders McCormick, 88, of the Lake James Community peacefully passed on to be with her Lord and Savior on Friday, October 2, 2015 with her children and McDowell Hospice by her bedside.  Born in Burke County, NC on February 8, 1927, she was the daughter of the late Gorman Lee Orders and Monnie Ethel Brittain Orders.  Rassie was an active member of Asheville Street Baptist Church .  She was active at the Burke Senior Center where she loved to paint, do crafts, and sing with the Choraleers.  Mrs. McCormick had worked at Great Lakes Carbon, the Burke County Courthouse, and retired from the Burke County School Board.  Rassie was a homemaker for many years and dearly loved her grandchildren.

Mrs. McCormick is survived by her children, Patricia McCormick Wellman of Morganton, Angela Gail McCormick of Murrells Inlet, SC, John William McCormick of the home, and Michael Gorman McCormick of Morganton; grandchildren, Christopher Todd Combs, Duncan McCormick White, “Lil” Billy McCormick, Kristin McCormick Cockerham and her husband, Adam, Kyle Joseph McCormick, and Kenton Michael McCormick; great-grandchildren, Cameron Tyler Combs, Cody McCormick, Zacchaeus Michael Cockerham; and sisters, Betty Orders White and her husband, Joseph, and Ruby Orders Osborne and her husband, John.

In addition to her parents, Rassie was preceded in death by her husband, Captain William J. McCormick; brothers, Sonny Orders and Jack Orders; son-in-law, Johnny Mack Wellman; and her in-laws, John McCormick and Esther Brown McCormick.

The family will receive friends from 6 – 8 p.m., Tuesday, Oct. 6 at Sossoman Funeral Home and Crematory Center.  The funeral will be held at 1 p.m., Wed., Oct 7 at Asheville Street Baptist Church with the Rev. Douglas Goforth officiating.  Burial will follow in Bridge 42 (formerly known as Calvin Heights Baptist Church) Cemetery.  At other times the family will be at the home of the daughter, Patricia Wellman.
