Ralph Eugene "Gene" Taylor, 66, of Autumn Care, Drexel, NC, died Thursday, January 5, 2006 at Grace Hospital following an extended illness. Born in Burke County, NC on December 10, 1939, he was a son of the late Marcus Taylor and Hannie Elizabeth Whisenant Taylor. He was a retired employee of Henredon Furniture and a member of Praise Assembly of God. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by sisters, Frances Saulman, Ruby Carswell and Annie Icard; and brothers, Joseph, Clyde, and Albert Taylor.
Surviving are his wife, Mary Beatrice Taylor of the home; a son, Michael Earl Taylor of Morganton; stepchildren, Joe Scott of Raleigh, Andrew Scott of Asheville, NC, Margie Weaver of Morganton; sisters; Mary Moon of Burlington, Dorothy Mae Ramsey of Rutherfordton, and Margaret Epley of Glen Alpine; and several nieces and nephews.
The funeral will be held at 3:00 p.m., Sunday, January 8, 2006 in the Colonial Chapel of Sossoman Funeral Home. Burial will follow in Forest Hill Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home for one hour before the service. At other times, the family will be at the home of Margaret Epley, 2795 Lail Road, Glen Alpine.
