Ralph Cephus Young

Ralph Cephus Young, 73, of Morganton, NC, died Tuesday, May 31, 2016. He was born on October 3, 1942 in Baltimore, MD to the late Willie Foster Young and Neva Breedlove Young. He was a Veteran of the United States Navy during the Vietnam Conflict. He graduated from Appalachian State University with a Master’s of Education. He taught at Western Piedmont Community College, Catawba Valley Community College, Caldwell Community College and Technical Institute and Iredell Community College. He worked for many years in the heating and air conditioning industry. Ralph was an avid NASCAR fan. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Joyce Young.

He is survived by his wife, Sylvia Ann Harris Young, of the home; sisters, Kathleen Rigney of Cincinnati, OH, and Louise Young of Chester, SC; also several nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends from 12:30pm-1:00pm on Tuesday, June 7, 2016 at Sossoman Funeral Home with the Celebration of Life at 1:00pm in the Colonial Chapel of the funeral home with the Rev. Jerry Gamble officiating. Military honors will be provided by the North Carolina National Guard. Memorial contributions may be made to Burke Hospice and Palliative Care, 1721 Enon Rd, Valdese, NC  28690 or Mt. Home Baptist Church, 2272 Mt. Home Church Rd, Morganton, NC 28655. Sossoman Funeral Home and Crematory Center is assisting the family with the arrangements.
