Priscilla Mary Moore, 90, of Morganton, NC passed away peacefully on Thursday, November 29, 2018.  Born in Utica, NY on January 14, 1928, she was the daughter of the late Wallace Ladd Owens and Ada Mary Burton Owens.

After graduating from Potsdam State Teachers College, Priscilla pursued a teaching career in Early Childhood Education in Utica.  Upon moving to North Carolina, she continued her teaching in the field of elementary education and reading until her retirement. She was a long-standing member of the Daughters of the American Revolution; the Morganton Moose Lodge; Women of the Moose, Chapter 1382; the North Carolina Association of Educators; and the National Educators Association. She was also a member of the Red Hat Society, Chapter 23393 in St. Pete, FL, where she resided in the winter and attended Snow Hill United Methodist Church in Nebo, NC.

Priscilla had a passion for maintaining the family photo albums. She loved playing bridge, gardening, dancing, traveling, and playing on her Kawai piano using old sheet music, which she had collected. One of her favorite pastimes was camping at Myrtle Beach in her Bounder Motorhome.  Priscilla’s enthusiasm for camping began at an early age when her family camped each year at Limekiln Lake Inlet in New York. Her favorite memories of that time included catching frogs for frog legs, boating, and learning to swim. She fulfilled her dream of living at the lake when she built her home on Lake James.  There she enjoyed swimming and water-skiing with her family. Priscilla loved the lake and passed that love on to her sons and grandson.

Mrs. Moore is survived by her son, Thomas Albert Herbison and wife, Cindy; grandson, Thomas Heath Herbison and his fiancée, Chelsea Baker; great-grandson, Noah Issiah Herbison; sister, Marion Elizabeth Miglis and her husband, John, of New York; brother, Albert T. Owens of New Mexico; and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, Mrs. Moore was preceded in death by her first husband, Richard Graham Herbison II; sons, Richard Graham Herbison III and Stephen Robert Herbison; and a brother, Wallace Burton Owens.

Sossoman Funeral Home and Crematory Center is assisting the family with the arrangements.
